Fake News

I've had it with news programs. When I was much younger the news was legitimate information brought to us by qualified people who did their own actual research and were known as reporters and journalists. Local news reported the LOCAL news and then the networks had national news. Now our news is just another form of entertainment.
Our local news teams send reporters to cover events the national news organizations are more funded and better equipped to do. I live in Central Florida. We don't have enough news happening right here? The problem is news isn't good enough anymore if it isn't sensationalized. If I want to know what President Trump tweets I will follow him on Twitter.
Here are some things that local people might like to know. UCF was given a grant for cancer research using a virus that kills cancer cells. The Orlando Magic players visit kids at Winnie Palmer hospital who need a boost in spirits. Did you know Disney helps to fund an amazing theme park for kids who probably won't see their 18th birthday, along with their families? Hundreds of volunteers give their time to staff this huge park with rides, on-site family housing and a large cafeteria. By the way, its called Give Kids the World. They always need volunteers. Never heard of it? Maybe because the local news is covering a story in New York where someone ran a truck into a crowd and is a terrorist. I've seen that story on the national news and every social media site. I tune in to see the weather, only to hear our local weatherman spend 3 minutes telling me that the changes we will see in my area.....are coming up soon. Why can't he tell us just a little bit? "It is going to be 10 degrees colder tomorrow and I'll show you why. " How hard is that? "I'll tell you if you'll need an umbrella....coming up." Why can't you just say "It's not going to rain tomorrow but it will on the weekend. I'll give you the DETAILS... coming up"
They spent countless spots telling me Dustin Hoffman was accused of sexual harassment during a movie he did 30 years ago. "We'll tell you what he said.....coming up soon." The actual story lasted less than 30 seconds when they repeated everything they said before, but added his comment which was "I'm sorry for anything that may have happened but it was 30 years ago and I don't remember." That was the only thing missing from the "teasers" that led me to believe it was going to be a big reveal. Not even a video of him saying anything. They showed the comment by teleprompter while his picture was on TV. Nothing further about the story. But because they could drop a big Hollywood name, it must be interesting.
To top it off ABC news kept telling me they had this big story about Dan Harris going to Russia to investigate hacking during the election. "Wait until you see what he found inside this building" is what they kept saying. So I waited, and waited....and waited. Finally we see Dan Harris going to the building with his crew...only to be thrown out by security guards the minute he introduces himself as a reporter with ABC news. They didn't even make it into the lobby. So what did he see? Nothing. What did he report? They used someone else's footage of a Russian liberal journalist (if that's even a real thing) who did a story claiming the building had people creating fake social media accounts to post fake news to Americans. I have news for you Dan...you didn't have to go to Russia to find that. Plenty of good ole Americans with real Facebook accounts passed around fake statistics right here in the States. Every politician running a "smear campaign" does the same thing here at home but nobody claims they are tampering with the election process. And nothing was "hacked". They created a fake Facebook account like millions of Americans do every day with no computer skills.
I am sick to death (as a good friend used to say) of the crap our local news is doing. Stop trying to be national news. Know your place. Construction on I-4 that is going to shut down the Colonial drive exit tomorrow should take a higher place than a lady in Boston who got stopped at the airport with her dog that wasn't really a service dog. Fake news is a compliment to them. It's not even news anymore.
